This morning’s lunchbox wasn’t aesthetic. No heart-shaped sandwiches. No rainbow fruit skewers. No cute notes tucked inside. Just some ready to grab food packets. And for a moment, I felt that tiny pinch of guilt that other mums probably make theirs look better.
But here’s the truth I keep reminding myself: Sometimes the lunches I carefully prepare come home half-eaten. Sometimes the “fun” ones don’t get touched at all. Sometimes the plain sandwich disappears completely. And it’s never consistent. Kids are unpredictable eaters. Some days Marshall loves sandwiches. Like he will say “Sandwich is so good! Everyday sandwich na lang”. The next thing you know, “Sawa na ako”. 😆
A lunchbox doesn’t have to look perfect to be enough. It just needs to be practical. It needs to be something they might eat. It needs to be packed with the love of a mum who was probably multitasking five other things at 7:45am. Some mornings I have time to prepare a good breaky and lunch. Some mornings we’re rushing. Both versions are okay.
Because the goal isn’t Instagram-worthy lunchboxes. The goal is raising kids who feel cared for whether their sandwich was cut into triangles or not. And if it comes back half-eaten? That’s okay too. Tomorrow is another try. 🤍
