Back in the day, Rod and I used to celebrate Valentine’s Day properly. Dinners. Movies. Bookings made days in advance and little gifts carefully planned.
Now? We don’t join the Valentine’s Day chaos. We wait for the discounted chocolates the next day. 😂
But on a more serious note, our dates just look different now. These days, it’s running errands together. Grocery shopping after work. School pick-ups and drop-offs. Sometimes it’s as simple as cleaning the house, me doing the dishes while Rod vacuums. Or both of us folding a mountain of laundry that somehow appeared overnight. We still have coffee time though. Just no more reservations. No dress-ups. No rushing to make it somewhere by 7pm.
And yet, there’s a different kind of intimacy now. It’s in budgeting conversations. In syncing calendars. In checking school emails side by side. In sharing the excitement when we found a good deal at Marketplace. Maybe that’s the most beautiful kind of romance… the kind that grows roots instead of fireworks.
There was a season for dinners with just the two of us. And maybe there will be again. But dating didn’t disappear. It just changed its form.
And this season, it maybe loud, messy, and practical, but it’s still ours. 🤍
Happy Valentine’s Day! Hope you have a good one. 🩷
